Inspiring Ways

Vintage inspires in so many ways. The silhouettes, textures and fabric, the small embellishments and details, and what always gets me is the bold use of pattern. Most of us shy away from bold patterns and pattern play, and I will admit I am often one of them. I tend to stick to the classics suiting patterns with a polka dot here and there! The thing is I am so drawn to abstracts, paisleys, pretty florals and bold geometrics and beyond love seeing them all styled together!

What if we took inpiration from these incredible bold prints and their fabulous colourways to create unique looks of our own? It could be as small as a fabulous scarf tied to your handbag (an accessory staple for me!) which you pull colour inspitation from. Finding your neutral and complimentary colour and hopefully a contrast pattern...or two!

This simple, pretty, back floral scarf inspired these three looks. Loving the way the colour palette reads in this small pattern gave me the jumping off point for pulling together the looks, it also gave me a check back point when I wasn't sure if a colour was working or not.

Vintage David Warren Dress in similar colour tones with a geometric & striped pattern. Scarf added as a belt to give definition and detail to the dress.

Ticking stripe pant with a handmade nubby knit multicolour sweater. Scarf could be added here as a belt, neck tie or a bow in your hair!

Classic A-line V stripe skirt with a sleeveless mock neck top in all the colours of the scarf, which has been simply tied to a handbag to 'tie' it all together!

Small things and accessories can help you look at your closet differently allowing you to create outfits and combinations you may not have otherwise come up with! So go ahead, mix it up, and always put a scarf on it ;)

For the love of vintage,

Rosalyn
